Nursing and Midwifery Council members
(One Registrant, Two Lay)
We are the independent regulator for over 771,000 nurses and midwives in the UK and nursing associates in England. Working on behalf of the public, we want to support nursing and midwifery professionals to deliver the care we all want – safe, effective, and kind. This is an opportunity for you to play an important role in making a difference for people using health and social care services across the UK.
We are seeking three new non-Executive members to join our Council in May 2023. Two roles are for lay non-Executives and one is open to a professional currently on our register.
As our work covers all the UK, we welcome applicants from all four nations: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Over the next three years, government reforms will transform how we work, giving us greater autonomy and flexibility to deliver more effectively for the public and professionals. The Council will also change, becoming more accountable to the people we serve.
We are looking for three high calibre, talented people who can add value and bring new perspectives as we enter this exciting new phase. We are particularly keen to hear from those who can bring significant skills in areas such as public accountability, public affairs, advocating for the public or for people who use services, senior leadership in higher education, commercial expertise or leadership or oversight of major technology/digital or cultural transformation.
Equality, diversity and inclusion is central to all we do. The Council is committed to ensuring that its membership reflects the diversity of the public it serves and the professionals it regulates. We know that having different voices, perspectives, knowledge, and insight will help us make better decisions. We are keen to hear from people with the right skills and expertise from all backgrounds, particularly those from Black and minority ethnic communities or with other diverse backgrounds.
You will be joining a highly motivated, forward-thinking Council, united in our ambition to do our best for the public we serve and the professionals we regulate, in collaboration with our Executive team. Our values - to be fair, kind, collaborative, and ambitious - underpin everything we do.
If you share our values and have the qualities, passion, and commitment we need to contribute to our work, we hope you will want to join us.
You will need to be able to devote at least 3 days a month to the Council; in return you will receive an annual allowance (currently £15,166 a year) and reasonable expenses.
Most Council meetings and seminars are held in London, but meetings and events may also be held in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and other parts of England. The Council and Committee meeting schedule for 2023-2024 can be found here found here.
